The talented Shabana Azmi has agreed to play Shah Rukh Khan’s mother in Karan Johar’s Khan. A source said, “Normally, Karan would not think of casting anyone but Jayaji to play Shah Rukh’s mother.

Reason being that both Shah Rukh and Karan dote on Jayaji and sure enough, she has already played SRK’s mother in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Na Ho.”

Apparently, it’s the strong political message of Khan that convinced Karan to sign Shabana instead of Jaya for the project. The source added, “Khan conveys a very strong message. It’s about the isolation of the Muslims after 9/11. And who better equipped to put forward a cinema of ideas than Shabana?

Also, the film is about a Muslim family based in the US. And Shabana would bring a natural elegance and credibility to her part.”

However, not much is being revealed about Shabana’s part in the film. But it goes without saying that she would be an essential part of the project.

After KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM and KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA (all starting with the letter “K”), Karan Johar has finally left the lucky “K” letter word from his new venture – MY NAME IS KHAN.

Well, here is the official announcement from the producer-director Karan Johar himself. On his official blog, Karan says, “My film is finally titled, “My Name is Khan” (alvida, “K”) and it stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. This is my first official announcement.”

My Name is Khan, will have SRK  playing the role of an autistic character. Autism is a developmental disorder and according to the National Institute of Health: “Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. These behaviors can range in impact from mild to disabling.”

A source said about Shah Rukh Khan, “He’s adventurous and dares to take risks, he dares to be different, and break all rules. It is a misconception that he is repetitive and does not like to play different characters. His performances in Swades and Chak De! India are the best examples to prove this point. My Name Is Khan will be a trump card in SRK’s repertoire. Playing an autistic person will be challenging. Shah Rukh will have to do a lot of homework.”

The source added, “SRK is very excited about playing this different character.”

Shah Rukh Khan seems to have taken Chak De! India’s Kabir Khan quite seriously.

After the stupendous success of the film, SRK and his best friend Karan Johar have decided to come together and make a film that will highlight the plight of Asian Muslims, post 9/11.

Shah Rukh will play a Muslim, who gets wrongly detained on a flight because of his last name, Khan. The authorities believe him to be a terrorist.

Unlike his earlier family dramas, Karan tries his hand at a more serious subject this time. More importantly, it looks like he has gotten over his ‘K’ fixation.

SRK will start shooting for the film in 2009.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, are reuniting as lead actors in a Dharma Prodcution Banner film for the first time in seven years,  Karan Johar said.

Kajol has finally giver her ” YES ” for this role and this should be great news for the fans of the one of the most popular on screen “couple” of Hindi Cinema.

The pair has starred in some of Bollywood’s biggest hits such as “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” and “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”.

DDLJ is the longest running movie in the history of the Hindi Cinema ans is still being screened at a theater in Mumbai since it released.

As per the reports, SRK will play a Muslim character and highlight the plight of the Muslim community following the attacks in the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001.

You have flu and you are still working?you are obviously a workaholic…
I know. But what to do. I can’t do anything beyond work. Except when I am spending time with my kids, doing anything other than work gets to me. Socialising is a problem, sometimes even holidaying is a problem.

Is that why you have clubbed the premiere of ‘Om Shanti Om’ in the UK, with a holiday with your children?
We thought why not make it a celebration for all of us. It would be the first for Deepika. Kids are also having holidays from the November 1 and we will go a little early and stay on in the UK till the 12th. And in that weather, you can actually wear a suit and look good!

Do you let go so easily in other spheres of life too?
I have never cheated anyone or my work. I have done my best, whether I was unwell, tired or unhappy. It has always worked for me. I truly believe in the tagline of this film, ‘Like in films, in real life, at the end everyone is happy, if not it is not the end.’

Do you get superstitious when a lot is at stake?
I get superstitious about God, about saying prayers for my kids. I feel if I haven’t prayed right, it is not working right. I truly believe that self belief comes from believing in God.

But for God to help you, you need to help yourself. Every one of us will find someone better.
